A Lifelong Journey in Agriculture
Agriculture has been part of my life for many years. What started as a simple interest in farming eventually became a lifelong journey of learning, investing, experimenting, failing, succeeding, and building.
In 2016, I planted the first avocado seedlings on a small farm inherited from my late mother. At the time, I was working full-time and managing farming activities during annual leave, weekends, and public holidays. The journey was not easy — there were crop failures, seedling losses, management challenges, and financial constraints. However, every challenge provided an opportunity to learn.
Today, Patmos AgriTech represents years of commitment, perseverance, and belief in the future of Tanzanian agriculture. Our goal is not only to farm but to create value through processing, branding, innovation, and sustainable business practices while preparing the next generation to continue the journey.
Our Journey
From a small family avocado farm to a structured agribusiness enterprise.
The First Entrepreneurial Lessons
The founder's first attempt at commercial agriculture was a piggery project. Although it eventually faced management challenges, it provided valuable lessons in livestock management, risk and business operations.
The Beginning of the Avocado Journey
The first avocado farm was established on the two-acre family property known as Itekele Block, with approximately 210 avocado trees planted. A small home-based poultry project also began the same year.
Expansion Phase
Additional farms — Kapugi Chini and Kapugi Juu — were acquired and roughly 800 more avocado trees planted. The company also acquired a 100-acre property in Kabuku, Tanga Region.
Kabuku Maize Farming Project
Patmos initiated commercial maize farming at Kabuku to diversify income streams and support future food-processing activities.
Umalila Commercial Expansion
Agricultural focus shifted to Umalila in the Mbeya Region, establishing larger commercial avocado operations despite infrastructure, transport and drought challenges.
Learning Through Crop Diversification
A two-acre beans pilot achieved around 500 kg per acre, reinforcing the importance of proper farm management, timely inputs and quality seed.
Patmos Unga Bora
Construction and installation of a maize milling facility was completed — realising the vision of Farm to Processing to Packaging to Market. Patmos Unga Bora was born.
